There are two pretty consistent staples in my mornings nowadays: a cup of coffee and a protein shake. So, when you have something like PRES Mocha Cold Brew Protein Coffee, it’s kind of the morning marriage I didn’t know I needed.
They come in cardboard single-serve containers that are probably pretty familiar to a lot of people who drink protein shakes on the go. It’s simple, convenient, and does the job. They’re also super easy to take along and toss into your bag before or after a run or workout.
The taste is also really solid. Oftentimes, protein shakes can be a bit hit or miss when it comes to flavor, but this is definitely on the better part of that spectrum. I chalk that up to the fact that it combines a bold coffee flavor from 100% Arabica beans with real cocoa, giving it a more true-to-life chocolate taste without being overpoweringly sweet.
Each container has 20 grams of protein and only 1 gram of sugar. Since it’s a coffee-focused drink, there’s also 120 mg of caffeine — enough for a boost without going overboard. There are no additional syrups, and the small amount of sugar comes from Stevia and monk fruit, so if you’re super sensitive to those flavor profiles, that’s something to be aware of.
Personally, I don’t love the taste of those sweeteners, but given how little is used, along with the cold brew and cocoa, I didn’t get the sweetener taste that I typically notice with products like this.
And if you aren’t a single-serve protein drink person, I’ve also really liked using this as a replacement for the oat milk and protein powder I’d normally put into a smoothie. I’ve tossed it in with ice and sometimes a banana or avocado to give it an even creamier, colder profile. And I kind of love it.
