This is not just any 10k. Some say the 2026 Steens Rim Run & Walk is the toughest 10k in Oregon. The adventure continues again in Frenchglen on August 1st, 2026, so gear up and get ready. This race starts climbing from the beginning and just keeps going up all the way to the finish in an unpredictable climate.
However, the EPIC views make it all worth it.
This race is always held on the first Saturday in August, and more than 200 hard-core runners make the trek out to Steens Mountain in a remote area of Southeast Oregon. The adventure begins at an elevation of 7,830 feet which is nothing to sneeze at.
From there, the 10k course follows a loop up along the rim’s edge, finishing above 9,730 feet at the East Rim Overlook. Check out the course profile here unless ignorance is bliss.
The terrain is primarily gravel, and it’s a very well-maintained road. There will be portable restrooms located at the start, near mile 3, and at the last turn towards the finish around 5.9 miles in. There’s also one at the finish line. Runners and walkers will be able to get a ride back whenever they are ready after their race in one of the vehicles waiting near the finish.
Walkers will begin on race day at 9:30AM and the runners will take off a half hour later at 10:00AM. If you’d like a drop bag for after the race, you have the option of putting one in the back of one of the registration vehicles by the start line before it leaves at 9:15AM and it will travel up to the finish area where it will wait for you.
Get registered so you can earn those bragging rights and do a race that you surely won’t ever forget.
