Deviator Wind Jacket
The Deviator line from Outdoor Research already has a strong reputation, and the new Deviator Wind Jacket continues that trend with a piece that’s ideal for those in-between conditions—when you need protection from the elements but don’t want to cook from the inside out.
It’s structured with intention: wind- and weather-resistant materials in key zones like the chest, collar, and shoulders, paired with highly breathable perforated panels on the back and cuffs. The result is a jacket that blocks wind where it counts but still vents heat where it builds.
Think of it as a “smart shell” for shoulder-season running or exposed coastal hikes. It’s not going to keep you bone dry in a PNW downpour, but it handles light rain and gusty conditions like a pro. Add in stretchy comfort, zippered hand pockets, and packability into its own pocket, and you’ve got a jacket that punches above its weight.
I only wish I had it last summer when the wind howled across Cascade Head. This would’ve been perfect.
Swift Lite Lined Shorts
A few years back, we reviewed the original Swift Lite Shorts, and then after that the Swift Lite Hybrid Shorts. Shorts in the Swift Lite lane have been pretty consistently solid — lightweight, breathable, and comfortable without trying to overdo things. The Outdoor Research Swift Lite Lined Shorts are another iteration of this well-rounded bottom, delivering a 7-inch option with a built-in brief liner that feels especially at home on the trails, hikes, and warm-weather runs.
The shorts feature 30 UPF sun protection along with a DWR treatment to help shed light moisture and trail spray. There is also added laser-perforated holes across the back panel for additional breathability, and storage is typical and practical as well, with a zippered rear pocket and side pockets that provide enough room for smaller essentials without adding bulk.
And we would be remiss to not talk about the super unique topographic colorway that adorns them (honestly the shorts are more green in reality than our pictures show – regardless of how hard we tried). Overall, the Swift Lite Shorts options continue the trend of dependable versatility that has made this lineup easy to keep reaching for.
Eclipse Sun T-Shirt
Summer has a way of pulling us Pacific Northwest runners out of hibernation and directly into the sun’s path as we take advantage of everything the region has to offer. Beyond just logging miles beneath (finally) blue skies, it’s the season of Rose Festival outings, Timbers and Hops games, weekend hikes, patio hangs, wine tasting, and just generally spending as much time outdoors as possible after months of gray skies and drizzle.
After all that overcast, it’s hard not to soak up every bit of sunshine we can get — but it also makes sun protection more important than ever.
The Outdoor Research Eclipse Sun T-Shirt is built more for life outdoors than strictly for running, but it still translates well for active use. The shirt feels lightweight and breathable while delivering UPF 50+ protection, making it an easy grab for long days outside.
It also features moisture-wicking fabric and odor control to help keep things comfortable whether you’re hiking trails, walking around town, or squeezing in a casual run before heading to the next summer activity. It’s the kind of versatile warm-weather staple that quietly earns a lot of use once the sun finally decides to stick around.
