I consider myself an active woman—but maybe not in the most traditional “runner” sense. My routine leans more toward strength training, yoga, and long days on my feet at the gym. Safe to say, I live in activewear and athleisure. Over time, I’ve found a handful of brands that just get it—and Free People has always been right at (or honestly, at) the top of that list.
I also try to spend as much time outside as possible—whether that’s hiking, camping, or just soaking in that fresh Oregon air. I wouldn’t call myself an expert in the outdoors, but I do love being out there… and yes, I absolutely want to look good doing it.

So when I heard about the FP Movement x Merrell collaboration, it felt like worlds colliding in the best way. Style meets function. Studio meets trail. And most importantly perhaps – shoes that are just plain cute.
I’ve been very familiar with FP Movement, but Merrell was a bit newer territory for me. Of course, I knew their reputation in the outdoor space—but I don’t think I had ever actually worn a pair. That’s officially changed.
This is the pair that’s ready to work. Trail-capable, weather-ready, but still stylish enough to wear straight into your day after. You’ve got GORE-TEX waterproofing, a super comfortable step-in feel, easy toggle laces, and solid grip underfoot—basically everything you want when you’re actually doing something outside.
But then there’s the look. The colorway is fresh, a little bold, and inspired by the archival Chameleon line—which feels fitting because honestly, these shoes adapt to everything. If only I was as quick and elusive as a lizard…oh well.
And I’m not exaggerating when I say these get attention. I’ve been stopped mid-hike, mid-errand, even mid-conversation at work. Hikers notice them. Grocery store clerks notice them. Even the kids at the gym gave their stamp of approval—which, as a 40-year-old, I’m absolutely taking as a win.
This collab seemed a bit head scratching at first, but looking back it just makes sense. It hits that sweet spot between function and style in a way that feels really authentic—especially for someone like me who isn’t strictly one type of “active.” Some days I’m running, some days I’m stretching or doing pilates, some days I’m outside for hours… and some days I’m just trying to be comfortable while still feeling put together.
And honestly? When shoes makes you feel good and look good, you find more reasons to get out there—and that’s kind of the whole point.
