For some, Cinco de Mayo is a holiday that’s an excuse to party, but for runners in Portland, it’s about getting in a fun race – specifically the Cinco de Mayo Half Marathon/10k/5k. This event, held on Sunday May 3rd this year to accommodate the weekend before the ACTUAL Cinco de Mayo holiday, also includes a free kid’s fun run, so there’s an event for everyone in the family to get in on. Check out the course maps here.

The Kids Fun Run will take off first at 8:45AM, followed by the half marathon at 9:00AM and the 10k at 9:30AM. The 5k will be the last of the races at 9:45AM. The event takes place at Sellwood Riverfront Park, and the race village will have water, electrolytes and some snacks available. There will also be some portable toilets and hand washing stations nearby as well as a gear check area.
Runners should plan to bring their own bag if they want to utilize the gear check to help reduce waste. There will be a tyvek hospital-type wrist band provided to label your bag with your bib number.
Aid stations will be located about every 2 to 3 miles along the course and will be equipped with water, sports drink, GU gels, and gummy bear chews. There will be first aid kits and toilets available at the aid stations as well.
Some parking will be available at Sellwood Riverfront Park, and you can also park at Oaks Amusement Park for $5 if you’d like to utilize this option, as it’s a short walk away from the start line. Additional parking will also be available in the surrounding neighborhoods.
All participants will receive shirts and medals, but please note that they are only guaranteed for participants registering more than 10 days before the race.
