Dust. In our homes, it’s probably not something most of us—or our allergies—want to deal with. But out on the trails? Kicking up dust beneath your feet is one of those simple joys that reminds you why you run in the first place. And now, thanks to a new apparel brand, you can quite literally Wear Dust.
Wear Dust is stepping onto the scene with a small but intentional lineup that blends function with laid-back trail style. At launch, they’re offering a few unique tops—including a full button-up collared shirt (honestly, one of my favorite styles for the trail) and a subtly designed, muted jacket that stands out without shouting.
Mechanic Shirt
OK, I’m not going to bury the lede here — I LOVE the Mechanic Shirt.
Over the past few years, I’ve made no secret of my growing affection for collared running shirts, and this one from Wear Dust absolutely knocks it out of the park. It comes in three colors, all of which look fantastic. From a distance, it could easily pass for a casual button-up — which, in my opinion, is a big plus — but underneath that style is some seriously functional performance.
At first glance, you might not even notice that the 95% polyester / 5% elastane fabric is fully perforated. Pull it on, and you’ll see (literally) how breathable it is. It handles warm temps and hard efforts with ease, keeping things cool without feeling flimsy.
Design-wise, there’s a subtle “Dust” logo on the chest and the brand’s signature magnetic rear pocket on the back right for small essentials. The fit is spot on — true to size, flattering, and just a joy to wear.
“Look good, play good” might be the saying, but the Mechanic Shirt makes a solid case for look great, run great.
Cotton Popover
If there’s one thing I’m always on the lookout for, it’s apparel that toes the line between performance and style. My “actual” closet (not the running one) is full of pieces that started as workout gear but transitioned seamlessly into everyday wear.
The Cotton Popover from Wear Dust fits squarely in that category. It’s not pretending to be just one thing — in fact, the brand calls it out directly: “Running shirt or lifestyle piece? ¿Por qué no los dos?” This layer is thick enough to handle a chilly morning run, but stylish enough that you could go straight from trails to taproom without missing a beat.
When I first pulled it on, I thought the sleeves were cut short — maybe even mis-sized — but that’s intentional. They’re designed to avoid extra bulk, and honestly, I usually roll my sleeves up when I run anyway. The cropped look even gives off a bit of a 1970s vibe — I could totally picture Pre rocking a dirty one of these back in the day.
Like other Wear Dust tops, the Cotton Popover features a collar — something I’ve come to appreciate more than I expected — and a magnetic pocket on the back for small essentials.
If you’re between sizes or prefer a roomier fit, I’d recommend sizing up. My Large fit fine, but it’s definitely on the slimmer side. It comes in three colors.
Quickdraw Unlined Short
I used to run exclusively in unlined shorts when I first started running. Then I shifted into lined brief and boxer-style pairs for a while. These days, I’m somewhere in the middle — I still appreciate a good unlined short for its simplicity and lightweight freedom, especially when it’s done right.
That’s exactly where these Wear Dust Unlined Shorts come in. They feel shockingly light the moment you put them on. Wear Dust says they designed them to “disappear,” and I’d have to agree — once you’re moving, they practically vanish.
There’s a bit of storage — two zippered side pockets and a rear zippered cell phone pocket — though I’ll admit, I’d rather keep them empty to fully enjoy how weightless these feel. When I’m just letting my legs do the work, these shorts are at their best.
The material is soft to the touch, and the fit runs true to size. The design is clean and understated: a small logo on the front and subtle embossing on the back — “STAY” on one leg and “ALIVE” on the other — a fitting mantra for runners everywhere. They are available in black and brown.
Add in a few hats and accessories, and it’s clear this brand is carving out its own place in the ever-growing outdoor gear space. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
