December races are in short supply around here, maybe in part because there are a lot of fair-weather runners who let the cold rainy mornings win rather than boost them from bed to lace up their running shoes. There’s one big holiday race in Portland that I’ve done quite a few times, and while it’s fun, I’m more apt these days to rise and run for the less flashy but more fun Ho Ho 5k.
This race, brought to us by X Dog Adventures, has a small family-friendly vibe and it’s a race well worth supporting. I ran a few X Dog races back before COVID destroyed the race scene, and now that they are back, I think it’s important to let people know they are bringing us the fantastic races that they always excelled at.
The Ho Ho 5k will take place in Cook Park in Tigard on Sunday, December 7th and costumes are not only encouraged but celebrated! Participants can walk, jog, or run through Cook Park and the neighborhood surrounding it. All dogs, kids, and adults are welcome to take part. Bring some canned food and warm coats and blankets. X Dogs is even collecting cat and dog food for The Humane Society.
Participants will receive a medal, hot cocoa and cider, and free tree seedlings! There will be HoHo’s and Snoballs for all and a warming tent and heaters to keep you toasty both before and after the event.
I’ll be there this year and I hope to see you there too!! Use code hoho15 to save 15% when registering!!
