Mega Miles, Mega Cushion: ASICS Megablast Review

Advertisements

ASICS is on a roll right now. After a few years of refining and reworking their lineup, Fall 2025 feels like a full-on stride—one strong release after another. The Novablast kept daily miles fun, the Superblast showed how light max cushion could feel, and the Sonicblast (review coming soon) brings a plated edge to the mix.

Now, with the Megablast, ASICS is doubling down on high-stack innovation, adding yet another option to an already impressive stretch of shoes.

Looks:

At first glance, the Megablast looks like it was built with one goal in mind: maximum bounce and cushion. It carries itself like a shoe that doesn’t mind being noticed, thanks to its oversized midsole and sleek woven upper.

There’s no getting around it—the Megablast looks chunky. But it’s chunky in a good way, with the big block of foam giving off a confident, almost playful energy. The purple colorway in particular is a stunner—bold without being gaudy, and one of the best-looking shoes ASICS has put out in a while.

If the Sonicblast is the sharp, versatile sibling, the Megablast feels like the big, energetic cousin—ready to soak up miles with a grin.

Construction & Fit:

Here’s where personal history comes in. I’ve been a fan of the Superblast, but once I pushed past about 12 miles, it started to feel a little flat. The comfort was there, but the pop was missing for me, and I’d usually dial my runs shorter as a result.

The Megablast feels like ASICS’ answer to that gap. It doesn’t have the plated, snappy nature of the Sonicblast, but the sheer stack of ATPU keeps it lively for longer. Yes, the ride feels blockier, but that consistency is a bonus if you’re looking for stability and durability across medium-long mileage.

If the Novablast is your daily fun shoe and the Sonicblast is your plated workout monster, the Megablast lands as the max-cushion long-hauler. It’s a shoe for runners who want to cruise with comfort and not worry about the shoe giving up energy halfway through.

Specs:

Upper:

The upper is a race-like woven mesh that strikes a good balance between lockdown and breathability. A thin, gusseted tongue wraps cleanly across the midfoot, and there’s a bit of extra padding in the heel collar to keep things feeling secure.

The sawtooth laces—yes, the same style I’ve loved in the Diadora Gara Carbon and TNF Vectiv 5—make another appearance here, and they’re just as dependable. This setup locks you in without requiring constant mid-run re-tightening.

Midsole

This is where the Megablast really separates itself. ASICS has loaded up the shoe with a towering amonut of their brand-new FlyteFoam Turbo Squared, an aliphatic TPU that’s billed as both softer and bouncier than the original FF Turbo. According to ASICS, it’s about 10% softer and 33% bouncier—numbers that sound clinical until you lace them up and actually feel it.

And yet, despite the skyscraper stack, it’s surprisingly stable. The wide base certainly helps, but it’s the ATPU’s slightly firmer-to-the-touch quality that keeps things from feeling wobbly. There’s less compression underfoot than you’d expect, so you’re not sinking into a marshmallow. Think sturdy bounce rather than spring-loaded trampoline.

Outsole:

ASICS kept things simple with AsicsGrip rubber. There’s nothing flashy here, but it’s dependable and durable. Whether on pavement, bike path, or the occasional packed trail, the traction held up just fine.

Overall:

The ASICS Megablast is a lot of shoe—in the best way. It’s tall, stable, and full of new foam that makes every stride feel cushioned without turning sloppy. While the ride isn’t the smoothest or most explosive in the Blast family, it’s dependable, consistent, and made to handle bigger mileage. Think of it as the steady workhorse that keeps showing up, day after day.

That said, we can’t ignore the price tag. At $225, it’s expensive for a non-plated shoe—and that’s going to be a tough pill to swallow for some. If you’re looking for max cushion and stability in a package that can truly go the distance, the Megablast earns its spot. But if price-to-performance is your biggest factor, it might give you pause before pulling the trigger.
