I used to associate 2XU exclusively with compression wear. Since I’m not the biggest fan of compression gear, I wasn’t very familiar with much of their offerings. However, we recently received a new pair of shorts for review – the Aero 5″ Shorts.

These running shorts from 2XU are a straightforward, no-frills offering—in the best possible way. Rather than trying to do too much, they focus on delivering a high-quality, dependable short that meets the needs of most runners.
The silhouette is classic, with a 5″ inseam that hits the sweet spot for everyday training. They offer excellent freedom of movement, thanks in part to angled side slits that enhance both mobility and style. The shorts are neither baggy nor heavy, and they accommodate a full range of motion without discomfort—whether you’re running, stretching, or squatting. The waistband is elastic with an internal drawcord for a secure fit, and the lightweight brief liner feels comfortable against the skin.
Our pair came in the Marble Acid/Black Reflective colorway, a standout choice among more traditional options. The unique pattern makes a statement, while subtle reflective accents—on the back of the left leg and the front of the right—add a bit of functionality without overpowering the look.
For storage, the shorts include standard side pockets, which are always handy, along with a zippered back pocket for keeping small essentials secure during a run.
All in all, this is a classic pair of running shorts with just enough personality to stand out. Whether you go for the bold design or stick with a more understated option, these are made to be worn again and again on the run.
