Hagg-ing for Adventure: Previewing the 2024 ORRC Hagg Lake Road Runs

Many runners are familiar with Hagg Lake due to the Mud Run in February, but if you’ve never come out to run here in May, it’s a whole different race. This year, the ORRC brings the community the 2024 Hagg Lake Road Runs on Saturday May 11th. Participants can choose between a 5K, 10K, or a 10.5 mile option and will experience the beauty of Hagg Lake Park and the “gentle hills” on paved trails around the lake.

The 5K and 10K options are out and back courses, while the 10.5 Mile course is a full loop around Hagg Lake. All distances will start and finish at Bobcat Cove. All events will begin at 9:00AM except those planning to walk 100% of the 10.5 mile distance, which begins an hour earlier.

There will be four aid stations along the course. The 10k will go past the 1st aid station twice (miles 2.4 and 4.2) and the 10.5 mile participants will pass all four at miles 2.4, 3.5, 6, and 8. Aid stations will have water, Gatorade, GU, and sweet and salty snacks. Though paper cups will be provided, the ORRC strongly encourages you to bring your own hydration system to help with waste.

Hagg Lake is about 6 miles south of Forest Grove and approximately 45 minutes from downtown Portland.  This escape from city running will be well worth the drive once you see the scenery and smell that fresh air!
