Come spend the weekend in Astoria starting with the flat, fast Run on the River 5k, 10k, or half marathon and then relax at the after party at Buoy Beer. With picturesque views, a fun atmosphere, great swag, and a kids’ race, the Run on the River is truly an event for the whole family.
The races are on Saturday, May 11th, but you can start the party with the race sponsor, Buoy Beer at their Lager Fest on Friday which continues on through the day on Saturday. Run on the River is a fundraiser for the Astoria Community Foundation to help raise money for healthy community projects, to support youth sports scholarships, and provide swimming lessons for every 4th grader in Astoria.
The half marathon, 10k, and 5k, start near Buoy Beer and you will take in beautiful views of the Columbia River as you run by local parks, restaurants, and store fronts along the Astoria River Walk. The race course is flat and fast, but you do need to watch your footing along the train trestles and trolly tracks which can be especially slippery when wet. There are plenty of spectators along the course as well as tourists enjoying the race as they explore the area.
The after-party is held right outside Buoy Beer and each registered participant receives a craft beverage from Buoy Beer and delicious offerings from local food carts are available for purchase. You will also receive a nice looking t-shirt that you’ll actually want to wear! All finishers earn a hand blown glass medal from Fern Hill Glass Studio and there are prizes awarded to the overall winners as well as division winners.
The half marathon overall first place male and female finishers will receive $200, the second pace will receive $100, and the third place, $50. Age division winners first through third place receive a branded ice pack. The overall first, second, and third place winners for the 5k and 10k will receive a gift certificate and the age division winners of these races receive a branded ice pack.
Come join in the fun with beautiful Columbia River views, a flat and fast course, and a great after party at the Run on the River, in Astoria on Saturday, May 11, 2024.
