Wilderness in the Neighborhood: 2023 Tabor Challenge (Portland, OR)

Mt. Tabor Park is one of my favorite hidden gems of the city. It’s tucked in the middle of a neighborhood, yet has enough paths and stairs to keep you wandering for hours. Tabor Challenge would be your perfect chance to explore this beautiful space while giving back to local high school students.

Tabor Challenge honors the memory of LTJG Thomas Cameron while also supporting college scholarships for Grover Cleveland High School students. Already funds from this event have helped to renovate the Cleveland clubhouse and supported multiple graduates in their college journeys. Thomas lost his life in 2012 in a helicopter crash, leaving a lasting memory in the community for who he was and how he cared for others in the community.

The 5K event begins at the Mt. Tabor Visitor Center and follows varied terrain (paved, trail, stairs, road) throughout the park. Leashed, friendly dogs are welcome to join in for the event. There will be moral support along the way from course volunteers who help you keep moving forward to the finish line celebration.
