The beauty of Smith Rock State Park is indescribable. There’s a reason trail runners, climbers, hikers, mountain bikers, campers, bird watchers, and fishermen and women flock here during every season. It’s simply gorgeous.
If you love Smith Rock as much as I do, put Alpine Running‘s 2022 Run the Rock event on your calendar. It will be the weekend of November 12th and 13th. The 50 Miler and 20 Miler will occur on Saturday the 12th, and the 50k and Half Marathon will be on Sunday the 13th. All events promise plenty of incredible views.
50M | Start time: 6:00AM, Saturday | Price: $170
The 50M course will be twice around a 25-mile loop with about 6,600 feet of gain and loss. Runners will get about 80% of this course on singletrack with 8 aid stations. There are 2 cut-off times: aid station AS5 (mile 25.6) at 12:00PM and AS8 (mile 41.4) by 4:00PM. Drop bags are allowed at AS1, AS3, AS6, and AS8. Sorry, no pacers allowed!
20M | Start time: 8:00 AM, Saturday | Price: $125
The 20M course will both start and finish at Skull Hollow Campground and is the one and only race this weekend that will take you to the top of Gray Butte. This course is 80% single track with the rest on double track and dirt roads. There’s a elevation gain and loss of 4,400 ft and there will be 3 aid stations. There is a cut off at 2:00PM at the Gray Butte Aid Station (the 2nd time) and no drop bags are allowed.
50K | Start time: 7:00 AM, Sunday | Price: $145
You’ve heard of Misery Ridge, right? If not, I won’t spoil the surprise for you, but read the name again and train accordingly. This course has about 5,500 feet of gain and loss with ~85% on singletrack with 4 aid stations. There is one cut-off time: aid station 4 (mile 26.5) at 3 PM. Sorry, no drop bags or pacers for this distance!
Half Marathon | Start time: 8:30 AM, Sunday | Price: $115
Expect this 13.1 miles to contain 90% of running on singletrack and roughly 2,500 feet of elevation gain. Runners will have 1 aid station for this course.
**Please note that Alpine Running has gone cupless, so be prepared at the aid stations to have your own cup / bottle / bladder / etc. Also, no dogs allowed on course due to permit conditions!**
