Two States; One Bridge: 2022 The Great Columbia Crossing (Astoria)

It’s a ways off, but someday I want to retire in Astoria. It is the perfect town to have the resources you need, enough folks around for community, and beaches that you can walk along for hours.

If you haven’t been to Astoria yet (or recently) you should get out there for The Great Columbia Crossing on Sunday, October 9th. This event will provide you a totally unique view of the area from the Astoria-Megler Bridge. First run in 1982, pedestrians are only allowed to cross the bridge during this one event each year. As the longest continuous truss bridge in North America, this is a course you will never forget.

Capped at 3,500 participants (with no wait list), the 10K event begins with participants shuttled from Port of Astoria or Port of Chinook to the starting line at Dismal Nitch Rest Area. Participants cannot part of be dropped off at the starting line and must take one of the shuttles. No bags are allowed on the shuttle buses or on the race course; this includes running belts and camel backs, so be prepared to carry or use pockets for any needed items during the race. Participants must be off the bridge by 10:45am so it can reopen to local drivers.

The finish line is at the Port of Astoria where finishers receive their medal and enjoy the after-party. Participants and friends are encouraged to enjoy the local opportunities by getting Clam Bucks in their swag bag (including extras at bib pick-up the week before the race).

  • What are Clam Bucks? Clam Bucks are wooden tokens worth $1 each. They can be spent just like cash at participating chamber member businesses and are valid for a full week: Thursday, October 6 – Wednesday, October 12, 2022.

There will be a shuttle bus at 11 and 11:30am for folks needing to get back to the Port of Chinook. The finish line will close at 11:30am.
