Spring races are popping up left and right and some of us are already signed up for summer events, so the timing of the 26th annual McDonald Forest 50K (aka “Mac 50”) is a good one to squeeze in. This year’s event will be held in Corvallis on Saturday, May 7, 2022.

The Mac 50 means business, with around 7,000 of feet of gain on over 20 miles of beautiful singletrack and about 10 miles of logging roads! Runners will be rewarded with scenic views of the Cascades, coast range, and Soap Creek Valley (with any luck). The course is new [and harder] this year, so be sure to keep an eye on the course markings but the race directors were generous enough to keep in the dreamy downhill finishing miles.

The Corvallis Area Trailrunners is the 501(c)(3) public charity that distributes all the race proceeds, which support local middle and high school cross-country teams, the Corvallis Mountain Rescue Unit and the OSU Research Forest.

There will be 4 well-stocked aid stations, but note that this event will be cupless, so please plan accordingly. The finish line will have post-race soup and other goodies, as well as a Territory Run race shirt and Injinji socks.

If you’ve not run in McDonald Forest before, these trails are such a treat. And if you have, well, you already know about the “magic of the maze”.
