Thanksgiving is a holiday focused on tradition. Spending time with family and friends. Enjoying favorite foods. And going for a run or walk to enjoy even more favorite foods (aka a second slice of pie).
The Turkey Trot at the Zoo is one of those key traditions for many in the Portland Metro area, and I am so glad it is back this year. Oregon Road Runners Club (ORRC) is a local volunteer-led group that consistently puts on running and walking events throughout the year. Each one is focused on getting the whole family involved. The Turkey Trot has multiple events, including a 4-mile run /walk, a Kid’s Tot Trot, and the absolutely adorable Diaper Dash for the littlest participants. Family rates are available for up to 5 individuals to save on being part of the tradition together.
This Thanksgiving rave includes multiple perks. Every 4-mile participant earns a finisher medal and is placed in a raffle for one of 150 humungous pumpkin pies. All Diaper Dash and Tot Trot finishers win a commemorative ribbon. Participants also can stick around the zoo with their race bib serving as entrance ticket (guests can purchase discounted admission).
Participation is limited to 1,500 individuals this year so sign up early to not miss out on the best way to spend Thanksgiving morning.
