Race Preview: 2021 Boring Marathon, Half-Boring Half-Marathon, Constantly Boring 8K, and Virtual Race Series (Boring, OR)

Question: How many races have baby goats at the finish line to greet you?
Answer: Not enough!

Luckily the Boring Marathon (along with the Half-Boring Half-Marathon and Constantly Boring 8K) is one race that not only has baby goats at the end, but also more bagels than you can throw a goat at. Which you shouldn’t because goats are super cute and should not be thrown.

I have participated in the Half-Boring Half-Marathon every year since its inauguration in 2014. You can catch up on their past in-person races through their website. This is absolutely one of my favorite races of the year for the wonderful team that puts it on and for the great cause all proceeds are going toward. The volunteers behind this event are enthusiastic, hilarious, and so generous with their time and support. For example, although the marathon has a 6-hour limit for traffic control, the finish line remains open and supported until the last racer finishes. And as for the funny side of these folks, look no farther than their offer to international runners:

Boring Sister City of Dull, Scotland – any resident of Dull, Scotland gets free registration (but you pay the travel)

All proceeds from the non-profit event go toward supporting the Sam Barlow High School Track and Cross Country Teams and the West Orient Middle School Track team. While you are out there running or walking 5 miles, 13.1 miles, or 26.2 miles, future athletes are being supported.

Now back to the event itself. All three races primarily utilize Springwater Trail for an out-and-back experience. That means participants will get to see lots of others along the way, and have easy access to aid stations approximately every two miles. Check out the course maps to see the full details, including some winding into neighborhoods to reach the needed distances.

And then come join me for this wonderful local event.
