Race Preview: 2021 SHOC Walk & Run (Virtual)

When we refer to running being good for your health, it’s usually in the “get the blood pumping to strengthen your heart and help your sanity” kind of way, but the good folks at the Sherie Hildreth Ovarian Cancer Foundation have a much grander vision.

On Saturday, August 7th, participate in a virtual run/walk to raise money for ovarian cancer research. Register for the 5k, 10k or enjoy a 1-mil family fun walk. Since this is a virtual event, you can “race in place” and select the course of your choice, either out your front door or along your favorite scenic route. No matter where you run, you’ll be connected to the amazing SHOC community.

Founding member Sheri Hildreth is a school teacher turned philanthropist, and an unstoppable survivor. The SHOC Foundation raises money for research at Oregon Health & Science University, and has donated over $1.2 million to the Gynecologic Cancer Lab. The foundation also raises awareness of the disease and supports survivors, and it has an impressive score of 90 from Charity Navigator, meaning that the money they raise actually goes to the cause and is efficiently used.

As Sherie herself says, “If you have a breath, find a purpose.” You may need to catch your breath after running this race, but you can also find your purpose and help support survivors and fund lifesaving research.
