On a clear day, Mt. Hood looms over the horizon like an open invitation to get out of the routine and into the woods. And after being trapped into a bizarre routine for over a year, getting out has never sounded so good.
Wy’east Howl is the only ultramarathon and trail half marathon with a course on Mt. Hood. Each distance is among the most challenging you will ever take on with backcountry trails that include dirt single-track, long climbs and descents, and rocky sections. The 100K is a 2022 Western States qualifier and lollipop format with a start and finish at Mt. hood Meadows. The miles in between will have runners heading into central Oregon’s high desert area and back again. The 50K stays closer to the mountain with most of the course on the Timberline Trail and Umbrella Falls Trail. And in case you thought it would be too easy, the course includes several small creek crossings. Last, but absolutely not least, is the only trail half marathon on Mt. Hood. The loop course keeps participants on the volcano using dirt single-track to cross through small streams and wildflower meadows.
Laughs, smiles, hugs and high fives are free. The registration fee includes a beautiful, fully marked race course (by the Race Director), awesome staging venue, parking, timing and results, full-service aid stations, medical support and communications, post-race food and beverages, custom finisher award, live music, professional photography and several other essential services and requirements we don’t need to mention.
