Race Preview: 2021 Mt. Hood Races

Go Beyond Racing brought back in-person races starting with the Smith Rock Ascent, and we’re excited for this summer season of fun on the trails! One of their most popular events, Mt. Hood Races, is taking place on July 10-11. The longer 50-mile and 50K distances are already full and taking waitlist registrations only, but the 25K has 250 spots up for grabs as of 5/28.

50M & 50K:

Almost all of the 50-miler and most of the 50K are on the beautiful Pacific Crest Trail. The course provides lots of shade, gorgeous views of Mt. Hood, generally good footing on soft trails, and a few technical sections with rocks and roots.

The 50M is an out and back course with 5,630 feet of elevation gain. The 50K follows the same course for the first 21 miles, after which runners turn around and add a loop of Timothy Lake on the way back. The 50K course has approximately 2,500 feet of elevation gain.

Both of the longer distances are UTMB qualifiers, with 3 points for the 50M and 2 points for the 50K.

These distances are both sold out, but you can still register for the waitlist.

The 25K starts at the Clackamas Lake Historic Ranger Station like the other distances, but takes runners round Clackamas and Timothy Lakes instead of the PCT. This course is very runnable, and most of the climbs and descents come in the first 6 miles of the race. Once runners hit the Timothy Lake trail the next 7 miles make for relatively flat, easy, and fun running. One last climb in the final 2 miles takes runners back to the start/finish. The lake and mountain views on this course are gorgeous!

Registrations for the 25K opened on May 28th. This distance is also expected to fill out quickly, with 250 spots available.
