The Ultramook trail races are back, live, and in person on July 3rd, with 30K and 50K options to choose from. These courses take you along the Tillamook Ridge and offer remote forest trails, varied terrain, magnificent views, and a challenging elevation profile.
Ultramook takes place in the Tillamook State Forest and BLM managed lands. You’ll be venturing off the beaten path on a course that mostly follows abandoned logging roads and trails that are well traveled by wildlife, including elk. You’ll race along the Kilchis and Tillamook Ridges, and summit three coastal peaks. On a clear day, the views are majestic (but note that fog is not unusual in the Tillamook Valley). Almost the entire course is in the shade, making for very comfortable running conditions.
All participants start with a 30K loop, with the 50K runners then adding a smaller, 20K loop. The 30K course has 3,719 ft of total ascent, and the 50K climbs a total of 6,481 ft.
There are strict cutoff times to help keep everyone safe. Runners taking part in the 50K must complete the first 30K loop within 6 hours and take no longer than 8 hours to reach the last aid station, at 25 miles. Fit walkers are welcome to register for the 30K but you must be able to reach the last aid station, at 12 miles, within 5 hours.
The race parking and staging is once again on the beautiful Hydrangea Ranch, which also offers free family camping the night before and night after the race (when at least one member of the group is registered for the race). The start line is about a ¼ mile jog or walk from the parking, staging, and camping area.
Ultramook is organized by the Ultimook non-profit, raising money for youth running programs in the Pacific Northwest.
