My first 50k ever was the Mary’s Peak Trail Run a couple of years ago, and it’s still the only Ultra I’ve ever done twice. It was well organized, challenging, and beautiful. This year, the Mary’s Peak Trail Runs, which will offer you a choice between a 50 Miler, a 50k, or a 25k run on trails, will be held on May 15th. It’s capped at 250 participants, and it’s well worth experiencing for yourself.
Mary’s Peak is the highest peak in the Oregon Coast Range, at 4097 ft above sea level. The race is held in Blodgett, a cute little town 20 minutes West of Corvallis, and 50% of the overall route takes place at Mary’s Peak, part of Suislaw National Forest. The other half of the 50k and 50 Miler run through Starker Forest. The 25k is 10% Mary’s Peak, and 90% Starker Forest. Runners will be treated to views of the Cascades and the Pacific Ocean, not to mention the lush and remote forest trails.
The 50 Mile race will cost you $115, the 50k is $95, and the 25k is $80. There are packet pick up options both Friday and Saturday outside of the Blodgett School before the race. All pre-registered participants will get a custom trucker hat and a swag bag. There will be awards 3 deep for all distances, and finisher’s awards including a pint glass for 50 Mile runners.
All races will depart from the Blodget School area, and the gym will not be open this year. All events will be outdoors. Camping will be available on-site with proceeds supporting the Blodgett Elementary School. There will be no bussing this year as has happened previous years and please plan to leave your drop bag at the start no less than 45 minutes before race start if you want extra supplies to be taxied to the aid stations on the course.
