Here in Central Oregon, there are plenty of places to run, especially if you like trails and lots of elevation change. Additionally, there are also plenty of quality places to get a really good beer. From the organizers who bring you the Bend Beer Chase, Cascade Relay Group has introduced a brand new event, called the Big Butte Challenge. And if you like big buttes, you’re going to love this event!
The Big Butte Challenge safely brings people together to accomplish one common goal: to reach the summit of 5 Buttes in Central Oregon. Between March 20 and May 31, participants hike or run each butte, on their own schedule, using GPS tracking to submit times to the virtual results portal. After each summit, participants can visit the sponsored butte brewery and receive a pint on the house.
Because of the nature of this event, there is not only plenty of time to accomplish the goal, but it’s even more fun to get a group together and tackle each one on a different weekend! Or, if you’re like me, you can tackle it solo! Either way, every butte offers a unique viewpoint of Central Oregon, while also offering participants a beer on the house of 5 very cool and very unique breweries, here in the Bend area.
When: March 20 – May 31st. This is a virtual event.
Cost: $60 per person for all 5 buttes, or $20 for 1 butte.
