Cold Weather Gear: Under Armour Qualifier Ignight ColdGear Funnel Neck

Women’s UA Qualifier Ignight ColdGear Funnel Neck, Mechanic Blue

Ladies, if you are looking for a top that keeps you warm without bulkiness, Under Armour has you covered with the Qualifier Ignight ColdGear Funnel Neck. This long-sleeved top surprised me. It is thin, so I decided to try it out on a cool morning that would usually call for layers, but nothing hefty. I was shocked by how warm this top was. In fact, it was too warm for high 40s and breezy. I would recommend this thin, breathable top for temperatures in the 30s or just slightly above.

This Under Armour running top has extra long sleeves with thumbholes and fold-over “mittens” to keep your hands warm. Perfect for those runs where your hands are cold to start, but you don’t want to commit to gloves. The inside of the fabric is brushed making it super soft and comfortable, along with keeping you warm. If you don’t like cold air seeping in around your neckline, this top remedies that with the “slouchy funnel neck.” The brushed interior extends to the neck, so you aren’t dealing with scratchy seams or fabric.

This top is fitted, so I opted to size up. If you usually wear another top under your long sleeved shirts, I would recommend sizing up. I usually wear medium tops, but found this fitted large to work perfectly. There was no extra fabric to contend with and no restrictions of feeling like my top was too tight – even with another shirt underneath. The 4 way stretch fabric (77% Polyester and 23% Elastane) allowed me comfortable movement as I ran.

The only negative for me was the funnel neck. I don’t usually wear high-necked clothing, so the extra fabric on my neck made me feel too warm. I’m used to being able to unzip my outer layer if I start getting warm on the run, or being able to easily remove it. The funnel neck made for a bit of a challenge pulling the top over my head. Note to self: Put your hair in a ponytail AFTER putting the top on. 😉 Basically, once this top is on, you’re pretty much committed for the whole run.

Overall, I liked that the top wasn’t bulky, but it was still quite warm. I loved the softness of the inside of the fabric and how the fabric easily moved with me as I ran. And, I really like the extra long sleeves. (I often start my runs with my hands tucked into my sleeves.) I also appreciate that the top has some reflective detail on the back, neck, and the sleeve for extra visibility. I have this top in Mechanic Blue, which I really like, but it also comes in Black, Green Citrine, and Crystal Lilac. If you are thinking about purchasing this top, I’d recommend you hurry on over to the Under Armour website, as it is currently on sale!
