Virtual 5K this weekend celebrating Girls on the Run!

Each spring and fall, Girls on the Run Portland Metro gathers its young girls and their running buddies to run the 5K they’ve been training for and working toward. Each Girls on the Run team will be hosting their own small, socially-distanced event (with the option of also running virtually) for girls and their families to connect with each other and reach their goals. Given that this year is anything but typical, Girls on the Run is inviting the rest of the community to support their organization through their virtual 5K this Saturday, November 14th! The mission of the program is to encourage young girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident and as we all know, running can play a huge part in each of those 3 pillars.

There is no registration fee, but donations are welcomed and appreciated. Your registration donation will provide scholarships to allow more girls to participate in the program next season, giving them the space they need to understand themselves and establish healthy relationships.

Registration is free (sign up here) but you can make a donation here if you’d like to support their program and mission!

More about Girls on the Run of Portland Metro:

Through more than 100 sites across the Portland metro area, GOTR has served more than 6,500 girls since it was founded in 2007. Last year, over $75,000 was provided in financial assistance to 41% of participants, ensuring that the program remains accessible to all girls who wish to participate. This included school-based financial assistance at 20 Community Access Partner (CAP) teams at schools where 70% or more of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. Bobi Jo has lived all over the midwest but moved to Portland in 2007 and now calls it home. She started casually running in 2012 and trained up for the "Run Like A Mother" 5k as her first proper event. She got a taste of the runner's high and is now a veteran ultrarunner. While running is her favorite sport, she is a "Jill of all trades, master of none" - her other hobbies include rock climbing, hiking, skiing, mountain biking, snowshoeing, and traveling the world. On her elusive rest days, she is an avid bookworm and a Green Bay Packers fan.
