Race Preview: 2020 Run to Stay Warm 5k/10k/Half Marathon (Virtual)

We all know that Covid has pretty much killed race season, but there’s a huge benefit to doing a Thanksgiving race virtually this year. Namely, you’ll still get your workout in and all the swag you would from a typical “Turkey Trot” style race, but you now have the advantage of scheduling the race to be any day or time you want to run it. At least, that’s how it works this year for the 2020 Run To Stay Warm.

This race, traditionally taking place the Sunday before Thanksgiving, now gives participants the option of completing their 5k, 10k, Half Marathon, or Layer Up Challenge (see more on that in the next paragraph) any time between November 20th and November 29th. You can do it anywhere and at any time you want within that time frame. If you don’t feel like creating your own route, the race organizers have also offered up multiple courses within their local community for you to follow .. Complete with start/finish lines and mile markers! This is the absolute BEST kind of virtual race. And there’s no reason why you can’t, safely of course, make this into a fun event with some friends or family before you stuff yourself with turkey and pumpkin pie.

If the 5k, the 10k, or the Half Marathon isn’t enough of a challenge for you, consider the Layer Up Challenge. Sign up for this and complete all three distances! You’ll earn a pair of Run to Stay Warm running socks, and another pair will be donated to a local shelter as well.

In addition to three sets of well-marked local courses in Eugene, Springfield, and Cottage Grove, there is an Active Experience App for the event and all participants will get the Run to Stay Warm Race Kit. This kit has limited edition RTSW merchandise, including a knit pom beanie, a fleece neck gaiter, and your bib and Finisher’s Medal. Also, as mentioned previously, you’ll also receive some RTSW socks if you decide to do the Layer Up Challenge. Finisher’s shirts are also available for purchase for an additional $25.

The cost for any of the distances in the event is $40 or $55 for the Layer Up Challenge. There is a 20% discount for families of three or more, and there’s a Run to Stay Warm Virtual Corporate Wellness Challenge as well. A portion of your registration money will go towards aiding the terrible wildfire disaster this year and will support the United Way Wildfire Relief Fund through the Fire Relief Partner Program. You’ll also be donating to the EWEB Customer Care Program, which helps customers who are struggling to pay utility bills in the winter.

You can register for this event as late as November 26th but if you don’t register before November 13th, you won’t receive your race kit before the event window opens on November 20th. So .. Do it now!!
