If there’s anything that makes me feel sane in these uncertain times, it’s getting out into the woods and surrounding myself with nature. Daybreak Racing has some great races on the agenda, and the 2020 Rogue Gorge 50k sounds a lot like heaven on Earth.
The Rogue Gorge 50k will take runners along The Rogue Gorge Trail and Upper Rogue River Trail on Saturday October 17th. The views on these single track trails, surrounded by old growth forest, will certainly be epic. Union Creek is only a little over 20 miles from Crater Lake and the historic Rogue River will be a stunning backdrop to this race.
Your registration fee for this event will get you a real life and fully marked race course courtesy of the race director, professional timing, aid stations, photography from Steven Mortinson Film & Photography, and a custom finisher’s medal, just as you’d expect from any Daybreak race. Race shirts and hats from Territory Run Co will be available for purchase and will feature the race logo. They must be picked up at race check-in or packet pick-up.
Day of race parking opens at 6:00AM at the Union Creek Day Use Picnic Shelter & Amphitheater (carpooling is encouraged) and bib pickup will be from 7:00AM to 7:50AM. The race begins at 8:00AM and the final cutoff for finishing the race will be at 4:00PM. Parking will closed at 5:00PM.
Please note that the Union Creek campground will be closed for the season for campers and available for day use for the race only. However, if you’d like to make a weekend out of it, year-round camping is available at Joseph H. Stewart Station Recreation Area and the Union Creek Resort’s cabins will also be open. Don’t forget to check our Beckie’s Restaurant for some delicious pie! Additional options are also located in nearby Prospect.
Unfortunately, COVID restrictions will prevent Daybreak from hosting the typical post-race meal, beverages and live music. However, there will be a chance to win raffle prizes and awards will go to the top 3 finishers for each gender. Participants are encouraged to hang out at the finish line with their party (limit of 10 people) as long as the social distancing and facial coverings rules are followed. Also because of COVID, spectators and pets will not be allowed this year.
If you’d like to help get the trail ready for the race this year, come on out for a socially distanced trail work party on September 19th. Spots are limited, but Daybreak would love to have you, so stay tuned for more info on that.
If the race must be canceled due to COVID restrictions, participants will receive either a full refund or a credit for the fee and any race swag purchases. This will not include the Ultrasignup processing fee.
