Gorgeous Virtual Relay Registration Now Open

Fans of locally-organized running relays will be happy to see that the great people of Gorgeous Relays have created a Gorgeous Virtual Relay, with some really great pricing. A team of 5-6 is $30; teams of 3-4 can sign up for $20, pairs can register for $10, or you can run solo for just $5. (Note: every time you see “run” in this post, think “run OR walk.”)

Registration is now open and will run through the month of September. Get more information about the Gorgeous Relay team and this specific race online here, or head straight over to RunSignUp to get registered here.

This is a WONDERFUL opportunity to encourage new runners to try their first organized event. If you’re setting up a team, consider reaching out and personally inviting someone that’s expressed interest in running, and let them know that it’s a no-pressure event hosted by a very supportive race organizer.

The 2019 Gorgeous Relay team from Run Oregon, featuring Robyn, Lisette, Kelly, Nikki, Naomi, and Reilly as GLOW.

The relay runs through the month of September, and teams will run when and where they want. Each member of the team will run the distance of their assigned legs – if you want to set up a way to do this with your friends, you can … or you can just do it on your own and then have a post-relay Zoom party.

Our team, The Squad, is trying to work out a way to run “together” while maintaining our personal distance. We might meet up at a park or someone’s backyard and stake out our own 10-foot bubbles, taking turns on our legs; or we might all just run our legs on our own and meet up afterwards where we can at least see each other in person, even if it is from a distance. Either way we plan to do it all in one fell swoop, with runner #2 starting as soon as our lead-off runner finishes, and so on. We’re aiming for September 13, the date that the 2020 Gorgeous Relay would have run, were it not for a global pandemic.

Registration comes with opportunities to play along with themes and photo contests, a 10% off coupon for (also locally-owned) Foot Traffic, and offers an opportunity to make donations to local nonprofits that are usually supported by the Gorgeous Relay series. Add #GVR2020 and #imagorgeousrunner to your follow list to get all the updates.

And if you need a face covering to run in, snag yourself a Gorgeous Relay buff during registration for just $15!

About Kelly Barten (1146 Articles)
I started the Run Oregon blog in February 2007, because I felt like running in Oregon and SW Washington deserved more positive coverage. I also wanted to level the playing field so that small, non-profit races could compete with big events; and to support LOCAL race organizers. I'm a Creighton Bluejay (undergrad) and an Oregon Duck (Sports Marketing MBA), and I live in Tigard with my husband and two kids. My "real job" is working for an incredibly awesome math textbook company doing marketing and production.
