Race Preview: 2020 Haulin Aspen Trail Runs (Bend) – 20% Discount Code for our readers!

I can’t believe I am saying this, but we are officially previewing a race for the first time in…a while.

Haulin Aspen, put on by Lay It Out Events, is back for its 16th year this August 8th and has excitedly has this to say:

With Oregon now in Phase 2 of reopening, we are so excited that the 2020 Haulin’ Aspen is definitely happening on August 8! We are still taking COVID-19 measures seriously and are fine tuning the details to ensure each runner’s safety without sacrificing any of the race highlights. Combined with the fresh air and exciting competition, we’re sure you’ll be psyched and well supported as you take the starting line.

This event offers a full, half, as well as a half-as (quarter marathon) with all 3 distances in the trail system that runs out of Wanoga Sno-Park (a very spacious location and easy to spread out in – but only for runners and one support person). Runners will start in small waves to encourage distancing and reduce clogging, with the full starting at 7a, the half at 8, and the half-as at 10 – with 15 minute increments between groups.

The course should provide some challenge, as it is run completely on trails and will provide some amazing views as runners weave through single track and double track, as well as along forest service roads. The start is also at 5500 feet of elevation, so come prepared. Check out all the course maps here.

There will be no post-race party or award ceremony afterwards, but there will be some food and beverages served (by masked and gloved attendees) and podium finishers will be recognized online and receive their gifts and award after the event.

If you are feeling like you still aren’t ready for an in-person rate, they also have a Virtual option new this year. Runners will be able to register and choose their own distance. You can even download the maps of the actual race course to your own running app if you feel you want the full experience, or complete it on your own. Upload your time with a screen shot of a running app and see how you stack up against everyone else. Your swag (shirt, medal, and bib will be sent to you (or available locally for those in Bend).
