To say it’s been a tough year would be an understatement. My solution has been to run. It doesn’t make anything go away, but it keeps me going. So when a great race organization like Foot Traffic announces that their store has been pillaged by looters, I don’t hesitate to stand up for my race community and tell all my runner friends to throw some business their way. Last week, I signed up for The Foot Traffic Flat 5k/10k/Half Marathon/Marathon at a bargain price of $40 for and it’s destined to be a phenomenal race experience. This week, I’m signing up for the 2020 Fueled By Fine Wine Half/Quarter Marathon for the same reasons.
Yes, it’s true this is a virtual race, and that’s not everyone’s bag. It is what it is and Foot Traffic wants to make your races the best they can be, virtual or not. They want you to have something to look forward to in an uncertain future. It’s true that you won’t get to experience a wine run in beautiful Dundee this year (or maybe you will depending on where you have access to run!) but there WILL BE WINE. Yep, you read that right.
Register for Fueled By Fine Wine and you’ll get an official race shirt AND an official race hoodie. You’ll also get a logo’d wine glass, an awesome finisher’s medal, a custom race bib, and.. Drumroll.. An EXCLUSIVE punch card for Dundee Hills wineries that you can use at your leisure all summer long. This punch card is worth more than that $65 entry fee alone. All pre-registered participants will also get a voucher for half off next year’s event.
So how does this virtual run operate? Choose your distance (quarter marathon or half marathon) and run it any time between July 18th and August 1st. A results link will be sent to you via email before race day so that you can send in your results. (For certified race results, you’ll need Strava or Garmin.) You’ll also get access to raffle prizes from partner wineries if you post results on the virtual race board, post pictures on social media, and email in your updates.
There will be a packet pick up before the race, and dates and details will be submitted for that soon. The wine glasses can not be shipped, so you’ll definitely want to pick up your swag if you want the glass. You do have the option of having your race packet shipped, (if you email firstname.lastname@example.org) but there is a large possibility that you would not receive it until after you’ve completed the virtual race.
Join me (from somewhere in the PDX area) for this fantastic race!
