Race Preview: 2020 Foot Traffic Flat Marathon/Half Marathon/10k/5k (Virtual Race)

Some things runners in Oregon could always look forward to in the summer were sun, sweat, and the Foot Traffic Flat on Sauvie Island on Juy 4th. This year, the 2020 Foot Traffic Flat will look a little different, as participants are being offered a virtual event. In case you hadn’t heard, most summer races aren’t IRL this year and many of us are just happy when there is still a good reason to get excited about running.

The benefit of running this year’s Foot Traffic Flat Marathon/Half Marathon/10k/5k is that you can run it anywhere and any time between Jul 3rd and July 15th. Since this run is traditionally a hot one that offers a limited amount of shade, you’ll have a bit more in your control this year since it’s virtual. My personal hope also is that our state will be a bit safer by this summer, and we can start running with other people again. This would be a great race to do with friends, (or even just one at an appropriate distance.)

Doing this virtual option is pretty simple. Choose your date and do your distance. Submit your results to results@hubertiming.com (or reply to the automated test or email that will be sent prior to July 3rd,) as well as any photos you want to send in. Now sit back and enjoy your swag.

And now, let’s talk about that swag. The swag.. The best part! This year, you’ll get not one but TWO shirts. One is the official tech race shirt you’d get for the race anyway, which is cool enough. But now, there’s a BONUS super cool tech tank top. You’ll also earn a huge finishers medal and a custom race bib (if you sign up before June 21st.)  Also, Sauvie Island is NOT closed, so all those awesome coupons and certificates you’ll get for the farm and local businesses when you register, (worth more that the cost of registration alone!) can be put to good use all summer long in support of local businesses. There will also be raffle prizes throughout race week and a voucher for HALF OFF for next year’s event to all pre-registered participants.

The cost of all of the above is only $39. That is a STEAL for a race, and this is coming from a runner who’s been doing a LOT of virtual races lately.

Details regarding packet distribution for this event has not been finalized yet, but Foot Traffic will be offerins a bib pick up over the course of a few days before the race dates. If you are wanting your packets before the race, you will need to pick them up during these (yet to be determined) times. You can, however can your packets shipped if you submit an email to info@foottraffic.us so that your items can be pulled and shipped to you at a later date.

The Foot Traffice Flat has been on my list of races to do for a long time, so I plan to register this year and hopefully run it with a friend and then run it IRL next year. (That’s “In Real Life” in case you hadn’t heard.) I hope to see some of you out there now or later!!
