Runners are living in a new world, and if we’re going to get excited to run, it’s probably going to have to be by doing virtual races for awhile. But not all virtual races are created equal and some are definitely worth lacing up for more than others. Why Racing Events been one such race company that’s stepped up their game and made running fun again.
I did the Spring Classic virtually at the end of May and it was top notch.. Organized, prompt, and SWEET swag. The next Why Racing event coming up is the 2020 Reflection Run and I’m positive it will not disappoint. And instead of having to trek up to Washougal, WA, you can do it anywhere you want to next week!
Since the City of Washougal has cancelled all events throughout May, Why Racing made the executive decision to make the Reflection Run, which honors current Armed Force heroes, virtual so we could still run in their honor. Not only that but the cost is now only $55 for all distances (which includes a 5k, a 10k, and a half marathon option.) Kids 12 and under can do the 5k free with a registered adult and juniors ages 13 to 17 get 50% off. $5 of every registration will go to Northwest Battle Buddies, which provides Veterans who are suffering with PTSD with service dogs.
This race has also upgraded the swag, which is an added incentive! The new USA Hoody available for the virtual race includes this year’s motto on it which is “You can cancel the race but you can’t cancel the runners!” It’s been quite a year for runners, but we aren’t going to let this pandemic stop us from soldiering on and staying strong and healthy. In addition to the hoody (which I imagine will be as soft and comfy as the Spring Classic hoody I earned in May,) all participants will get an upgraded medal, a mason jar, a collector’s sticker, an IQ Buff, and some more goodies!
Since this is a virtual race, you can choose to start any time you wish between May 17th and May 25th. Make up your own route, whether it be on hills or flat roads, on trails, a treadmill, or pavement. It’s your choice, but please be safe! Have fun with it and document your journey with photos and videos so you can turn it in later for the official photo album and video that Why Racing will be creating. If you want to be a part of the final results, turn in your times, but you’ll get all your SWAG whether you decide to participate or not.
If you’re feeling extra pumped for this event, go for the BEAST medal! If you choose to participate in two or three events over the time frame, you can earn an additional medal for an extra $20 for each. I ran three races for the Spring Classic and got a three-headed beast medal, which is my favorite this year so far!!
Just because you can’t see the start and finish line, it doesn’t mean it’s not there. Get out and race, but hurry before this one passes by!
