I am finally hearing birds chirping in the morning and seeing the sun come up during my morning runs, which means Spring is FINALLY in bloom and with it come all the Spring races. It’s time to gear up for the 36th Annual Spring Classic Duathlon & Home Depot Half Marathon, 10k & 5k on April 19th! There are so many options to get excited for!
The Duathlon, (a 15 mile bike ride bookended with 5k runs before and after) will be almost entirely on Marine Drive, which will be closed to vehicle traffic, so feel free to hog the road a bit! This is a great event for beginners and veterans alike, as the entire 15 miles of the ride is on smooth pavement and it’s a nice flat and fast course (save for the brief elevation gain and loss under the Glenn Jackson Bridge.) Not only that, but you’ll have the Columbia River at your side to motivate you.
As with the Duathlon, The Home Depot Half, 10k, & 5k will also feature flat courses that travel along the Columbia River, offering scenic views for all. The 5k will take place on Marine Drive and you can view the course map here. The 10k will follow the same path before venturing off along the Columbia River waterfront pathway for the second 5k of the race. Check out that race course here. Enjoy a start and finish at the Home Depot off Airport Way, (please park in front of Concordia College) where Why Racing Events promises you high energy music, vendors, and free beer from Deschutes Brewery and a post-event brunch. You’ll also get a technical runner’s t-shirt (only guaranteed if you’ve registered at least a month before the event) and a finisher’s medal.
