What Run Oregon is Wearing: Brooks Hyperion Elite Running Shoe – the currently SOLD OUT shoe everyone wants

Hyperion Elite Running Shoes - White/Nightlife/Grey

I was asked to test run the Brooks Hyperion Elite running shoes a few weeks ago. They came quickly and I was eager to get some mileage on them. I received the black model and as soon as I took them out of the box I felt how light the shoe is. I laced up and stood up. A new running shoe always feels good, but this shoe was different. They immediately made me want to jump and take a bound forward. I’ve never felt this when I put a running shoe on, or any shoe for that matter. The shoe’s upper is nice and thin with a super slick look. The laces seemed kind of flimsy at first. After I laced them up correctly I realized they actually lock into place really well on my foot.

My first 7 miles in the Hyperion Elite were fanatic. The “spring” I felt immediately in the forefront of my feet was like no shoe I’ve ever worn! The shoe is light (6.9oz) and gave me a smooth, comfortable run. With the 8 mm mid sole drop, I felt at ease as I ran the streets that day. The shoe has a carbon fiber propulsion plate. It’s design seems to fit my running style well and allowed me to push off with ease with every step. My first though after this run was, I should be wearing these for my upcoming marathon.

I took these shoes for a test run at a 5k I had signed up for. The course was mostly a paved bike path and it was raining (a lot) that morning.  I warmed up in the shoe and was happy I wasn’t having any sliding issues at all. I was worried it would feel slick out with the rain as I hadn’t wore these shoes in the rain yet. I realized after this race, these shoes were made for racing! I was very pleased that even going up and down a wet hill, and going over a bridge, I didn’t feel any slippage at all. The water didn’t weight these shoes down either. The upper is very thin and the water just seemed to slide right off. Although these “fast” shoes didn’t hand me a PR that day, I realize I have some more work to do for my upcoming marathon. This shoe feels fast and makes me want to trust forward with ease, but I still had to do the running! I will be racing in these shoes again.

I wouldn’t necessarily recommend these shoes for longer, slow runs as they are clearly meant to run fast, and feel good, in.
