2019 Races on the Radar: December 3

Welcome to the latest post in the 2019 Races on our Radar series, where we report on cool and/or low-cost races, group runs, price and registration deadlines, and other things we think you should know about it.

We would like to you hear from you, too. If you’re in the know on a race that you think others need to check out, let us know via email, twitter, or facebook!

Coming up this weekend:

  • Head to the southern Oregon coast town of Brookings on Saturday, December 7 for the Jingle Dash 5k, which is only $20, with proceeds supporting the local school’s 8th grade trip to Washington, DC. The race is also hosting a food drive.
  • The Operation Jack 6-Hour Run/Marathon/Half Marathon on Saturday has some good prices; just $40 for the half and $50 for the marathon or 6-hour run. This is a loop course raising funds for autism research.
  • How about a free race? Get over to Monmouth on Saturday for the Reindeer Fun Run. The 5k is only $10, and there’s a 1k for $5 (paper registration form here).
  • What’s that — another free race? You know it! The ParkRun 5k is run every Saturday on the Rock Creek Trail. Be sure to register online ahead of time to participate.
  • On Sunday, December 8, you can join in the runners of CORK in Bend for a Hot Chocolate Run. This is a free group run with a little social time after the run.
  • Also on Sunday, you can join the BadAss Lady Gang at our cheer station at the Holiday Half. We’ll do little out and backs along the course between cheering and maybe some caroling. Meet at 8a on the corner of N Willamette and N Woolsey.

Next weekend:

  • On Saturday, December 14, Carlton’s Santa Dash 5k is only $20 – but registration closes on the 11th so sign up by then if you want to participate.
  • The Lincoln City 5k on the 14th is only $15 when you sign up online by the 13th.
  • Over in Coos Bay on the 14th, Mac’s Run hosts a 5k and a 10k for $25. That qualifies the 10k as a “low-cost race” so check it out! Online registration ends on the 12th.
  • Medford’s Ugly Sweater Run 5k on Saturday the 14th is only $17.
  • Another ParkRun 5k on Saturday the 14th, of course, and it’s free, of course.
  • Vernonia is hosting an Ugly Sweater Run 5k as well on Saturday, with registration priced at $20.

We started the Run Oregon blog in February 2007, because felt like running in Oregon and SW Washington deserved more positive coverage. We also wanted to level the playing field so that small, non-profit races could compete with big events; and to support local race organizers.
