This is Run Oregon, so presumably most of our readers are from Oregon or southwest Washington. But if you’re from Seattle — or you plan to be in Seattle for New Year’s — check out the Resolution Run 5K and Polar Bear Dive. This is a Club Northwest race for those of you who are members.
It’s a New Year’s Day race with a leisurely start time of 10:30 am, and for those who really want to kick off the new year in a brisk fashion, you can (but aren’t required to) dive into Lake Washington just before finishing the race. You get to choose if you want the optional detour; results will be separated into two categories (with and without the polar bear dive). Afterward, chow down on hot chili with a beer garden as well for those 21 and older.
The race route can be seen here. This is a route that would be helpful to look at beforehand so that you know what to expect. Near the latter part of mile 2, there is a 180 degree turnaround and then a short out-and-back loop to start mile 3, which means parts of mile 2 and mile 3 overlap.
