I didn’t have time to pull my Halloween costumes of boxes in the garage (we just moved into a new house a few months ago,) and I felt a tad left out of the fun when I saw all the creatively dressed runners surrounding me and my husband. I had again dragged my non-running hubby out with the promise of beer and fun swag following just a little sweat along the untimed fun run. I had run an extra 10 miles that morning anticipating this to be an event where I could just stretch out my running legs, have a genuinely good time, grab a beer and some food, and enjoy some time with other adults. These events are perfect for such an occasion.
Parking wasn’t as bad as we’d anticipated and the organizers and volunteers were as chipper as ever. Tables were set up in front of the Kennedy School and there was water, coffee, Halloween candy, and even Franz Zombie Donuts. After a quick check in, we went to the bib decorating station, followed along with the group stretches, and off we went.
As always, the turns were obvious with all the “Beer Run” signs and smiling volunteers pointing the way and we were done before we even knew where we really were. This was a route that had a bit of everything, including asphalt, mud, gravel, and bark chips. There were strollers, kids, and dogs on leashes, not to mention plenty of people-watching opportunities.
Luckily, there is always another race at another brewery coming soon in this series. Check out the schedule here and I hope to see you there.
