Race Preview: 2019 Kevin’s Cup 8K Trail Run (West Linn)

The trails are starting to get muddy and slippery so it is harder and harder to find a good trail race. But, don’t fret, there is a tough one right around the corner that is definitely worth running.

The 28th Annual (that’s right TWENTY EIGHT YEARS!) Kevin’s Cup 8K Trail Run put on by X-Dog Events is on November 9th, 2019 and takes place in West Linn at the Mary S. Young Park. If you think this run is going to be a mild, easy trail run, you are wrong. This course promises steep uphills, brutal downhills and knee scraping fun. The trail offers creeks, mud and switchbacks so only do this run if you are ready and excited to get a little dirty!

Don’t forget to dress up for this event too! There will be prizes for costumes and this year’s theme is YEAR OF THE COWBOY, so pull out your best country western outfit.

Here’s a snippet from the 2018 event:

Running to me is all about community and the running culture. It is making everyone feel welcome and having those like us – a group of nutty people that run through mud on weekends – feel like family. You expect that feeling in group runs and running clubs, but it’s more unique to see it in an actual race as typically everyone is there doing their own thing and in the zone. The 2018 Kevin’s Cup Trail 8K definitely provided this feeling of togetherness, like this was this truly was a family and community affair. It seemed everyone knew everyone, and even if you didn’t (like me), they immediately welcomed you and told you about all the inside jokes surrounding the race.

It was a really special event and I am so glad that I included the post-race event as it really did make the race experience. Kevin and X-Dog puts on one heck of a race.

After the event run or drive a mile to Round Table Pizza for a post-event celebration. This will include awards for age group winners and overall. Each runner will also get a souvenir glass and be eligible for tons of awesome prizes.

When trail season seems all but over, don’t forget to run the Kevin’s Cup and enjoy the muddy trails of West Linn!
