Race Preview: The Lung Run 5k (Student Project – Sandy)

Technically, The Lung Run 5k is a free race, but participants are asked to fundraise or make a donation, as proceeds from the race go to the American Lung Association. This race is being put on by Ty Tilden, an 8th grader at Oregon Trail Academy in Boring, in honor of his great-grandmother, who recently passed from lung cancer. The race will be on Saturday, October 12, at 7:45a, with registration/donations available online here.

This 5k is for walkers, runners, strollers, dogs (on leashes), and anyone else not mentioned. It will start from outside the Sandy Fred Meyer’s Garden Center and then hops of the Tickle Creek Trail. On the race’s facebook page, Tilden writes, “I thought that the community project would be a great opportunity to honor her and do good in the community. The American Lung Association strives to improve air quality, help end the smoking epidemic, and fight lung diseases like lung cancer. I am inspired by the great work they do and chose to create a 5k run to benefit the American Lung Association in Oregon.”

Support Ty and his efforts to raise funds for the American Lung Association! Here’s what you need to know:

About Author

We started the Run Oregon blog in February 2007, because felt like running in Oregon and SW Washington deserved more positive coverage. We also wanted to level the playing field so that small, non-profit races could compete with big events; and to support local race organizers.
