Race Preview: 2019 Run Like Hell Half Marathon, 10K, & 5K (Portland)

There are certain races I look forward to every year. When the summer heatwave shifts to fall rainy days, I know that the costumed adventure Run Like Hell is just around the corner. And this year, that corner is somewhere brand new.

The Run Like Hell half marathon, 10K, and 5K have moved from downtown Portland out to McMenamins Edgefield. The hotel grounds provide the prep area and after-party, with participants shuttling to the start/finish line near the Columbia Gorge Outlets. Using Edgefield as the party area means lots of space to spread out for the celebration, and a free McMenamins beer or cider for participants 21+.

The course itself is an out-and-back that uses a pathway alongside the Sandy River toward Marine Drive and the Columbia River. Course maps have not been finalized yet, but the anticipated routes are posted on Terrapin’s website. Also posted are images of the t-shirt and medal that all participants receive. I guess you’ll have to use your imagination for all the Halloween candy and treats they’re promising.

The theme for this year’s event was decided through Facebook voting a few weeks ago. The crowd has spoken with a resounding win for Stranger Things. The costume contest starts after races so stick around to compete, or cheer on those who know their Eleven’s from their Demagorgons.
