I owe a great deal to optometrists. I’ve worn glasses since I was in kindergarten and would be sufficiently blind without good people advancing the science of eyeballs (I believe that’s the correct jargon). Fortunately, the Lions Club shares both my love of running and my appreciation of optometry, and they are combining both (as well as an appreciation of audiology) in the Forest Grove Lions Run/Walk for Sight & Hearing. The Lions Club has a long history of community service, and two forms of this are their eyeglass recycling program and hearing aid recycling program.
At the Forest Grove Lions Run/Walk for Sight & Hearing, participants can complete a 5k or 10k. The race will be held on Saturday, September 14 and it begins and ends on the Pacific University campus (which means access to campus parking lots and restrooms). There will be water and snacks at the finish line, and 10k runners will have water mid-race. Runners and walkers of all paces are encouraged to join, and dogs, strollers and arm-powered wheelchairs are also welcome. Proceeds of the event go to fund scholarships, purchase vision clinic equipment and assist the Pacific University AMIGOS program of non-profit optometric services.
We all know running helps your heart and the Lions Club works to help people’s sight and hearing. Come run or walk with the Lions Club because even someone as nearsighted as me can see that combining all three is wonderful for the community.
