Race Preview: 2019 Mud Madness (Salem)

You’ve probably heard that some of the bigger-named, nationally operated mud runs / obstacle course races have been being canceled or disappearing altogether, which is a bummer for those who love this genre of running! Luckily we have some awesome locally-run races in the same vein and coming up on Saturday, August 31st is the the 7th annual Mud Madness race at the Fordyce Farm in east Salem!

Hosted by The Exchange Club of Salem, this event has some of your favorites (or least favorites!?): a 100ft water slide, tire tunnels, wall climbs, monkey bars, balance beams, a maze, an electrified feature, and of course…mud! Choose from the 1.7 mile option or the 5K (the 5K does not include the slide, but you can return to the course afterwards for free to enjoy it)! If you’ve not had enough at this point, you can opt for the Challenger Course featuring a 500 foot mud bog they call a “shoe sucking monster”!

You’ll have earned it for sure, so stick around for the post-race party – they’ll hose you off and give you a free beer to enjoy while you listen to the live music, take in a hay ride, wander the farm, or, as I would, just hang in the shade and feel the life return to my legs.

Check out their Facebook page for more details and some “dirty” sneak peeks!
