Race Preview: 2019 Run to the Top Hoodoo Challenge (Sisters)

Just west of the town of Sisters, the mountains beckon. Capped in snow, they call out to those who dream of running or hiking their trails. In the middle of these mountains there is Hoodoo Ski Area and Hoodoo Butte, a 5,600 foot cinder cone that sits just north of Mt Washington and North Sister. For those that know of these majestic mountains, there is a sense of awe, as they rise out of the volcanic region in which they reside. For runners, the area represents a bevy of trails and climbs that both excite and test the most seasoned among us.

For the 3rd year, Sisters Kiwanis gives participants the chance to compete in a half marathon that ends at the top of Hoodoo Butte. With just under 2K of climbing, the Hoodoo Challenge is exactly that; a worthy challenge to the top. If you are looking for a half marathon course to set a new PR, this is probably not the one. But if you are looking for a race that will leave you breathless, both due to the course and the scenery, this is your event. And if a half marathon is a little too much, given the elevation gain, consider the 5K that also ends at the top!

When: Saturday, July 27th. Races start at 8am.

Register/Cost: Sign up at UltraSignup. Half marathon = $60. 5K = $30. Entry includes logo’ed race socks and a 2-for-1 lift ticket voucher for Hoodoo Ski area. Dri-fit style logo’ed race t-shirts and trucker-style logo’ed race hats are available for purchase at checkout for an additional $25.
