Race Preview: 2019 Run for the Oaks (Rickreall)

Left Coast Estate presents the 4th Annual Run for the Oaks in the beautiful Oregon Wine Country. This 5K and 10K will take runners and walkers through the estate vineyards and old growth oak savannas. The course will run along gravel roads, trails, and some paved road sections. As you will be running at a vineyard, you can expect some significant elevation change along the route, so get those legs and lungs ready! Proceeds from this event supports the Oak Savanna Restoration Project at Left Coast Estates.

Left Coast has over 100 acres of ecological compensation areas and 70 acres of old growth oak forest. Through time the forest has become populated with invasive species and our goal is to restore the forest to a native oak savanna. We have partnered with the US Fish and Wildlife Service. They will provide the technical expertise for the restoration as well as help us to match any funds were are able to raise ourselves with Federal and State grants. The forest will be a permanent wildlife refugee in the center of our estate and create habitat for native plants, wildlife, birds, and insects as well as improving the watershed.

Our hope is that, through the years, racers will see the improvements we are making in the forest and witness their own contributions to those efforts as the restoration project develops and grows. We seek to expand the trail system and make it a true ecological experience open to everyone who comes to visit us at the estate.

Race participants will receive race shirts by Patagonia, a GoVino wine glass, and complimentary wine tasting after the race (or free soda for those under 21.) There will be awards presented after the race, as well. The tasting room will be open for light-fare, BBQ, and wood-fired pizzas. If you have guests, that would like to wine taste with you after the race, they can purchase the flight for $15. Proceeds from food and wine sales on race day will also go towards the Oak Savanna Restoration Project.

Just looking through the pictures from this venue makes me want to Run for the Oaks. It looks hilly, but truly beautiful. I think it would be worth the drive out to Rickreall to enjoy this scenic course among the vineyards and old oaks. And, there’s the added bonus of helping to preserve this beauty and enjoy some wine tasting too!
