When I was a kid, ladybugs seemed like magical little creatures to me. Spotting one crawling through the backyard would lead to a journey through the grass, into the bushes, and every other way until it flew away. With more personality than butterflies (in my opinion), these bugs were always a welcome sight come spring and summer.
The Ladybug Run at Cook Park is seeking to capture some of that same magic, and do some good with it. The race includes 5K, 10K, and virtual running options. If you can make it to Tigard, you’ll be running or walking through a beautiful course that uses loops in the park and nearby neighborhood. All participants complete the first loop, and then 10K athletes keep going to a second. After the race, everyone is welcome to stick around for a day in the park, including live music, craft bears, and lots of good food. For those who are too far away on Saturday, July 20, you can still be involved as a virtual runner. All participants receive a race bib, shirt, and medal for finishing.
And all those participants will be supporting a worthy cause:
Proceeds from the race go to the Ladybug CDH Foundation whose mission is to help raise public awareness, fund medical research, and provide direct assistance to families in the Pacific Northwest with children affected by Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH), a potentially fatal congenital birth defect that affects 1 out of 2,500 children born every year.
For the kids (and parents) who need some magic, check out this race and see how you could be involved.
