Race Preview: 2019 Mount Hood 50M/50k/25k (Timothy Lake)

Go Beyond Racing puts on some of the best and most beautiful races in the Pacific Northwest. If you’ve never run one of their events, the 2019 Mt. Hood 50 Races would be a great place to start. The 50 Miler and 50k are primarily run on the Pacific Crest Trail, which is such a treasure to our beautiful state. The 50k also ventures around gorgeous Timothy Lake. There is also a 25k which doesn’t take the PCT on the route but does take runners on a tour of the Old 1916 Trail and Timothy Lake.

The 50M will take place on Saturday July 13th and the 50k and 25k will both be on the following day, Sunday July 14th. All will start at the historic Clackamas Ranger Station. The route is relatively soft, though there are some more technical sections with rocks and roots to watch for. You can check out the 50 Miler here, the 50k here, and the 25k here.

There will be some awesome post-race food, and you’re sure to be hungry! There will be pulled pork sandwiches, hamburgers, hot dogs, and veggie burgers available. Friends and family can also get a meal for $5 (which goes to the race beneficiary, Pacific Crest Trail Association.) There will also be awards to the top 3 male and female runners as well as the masters and group winners. There’s a raffle open to all, thanks to the sponsors.

You’ll need to plan this race well in advance, as there’s a lottery for the 50 Miler, which opens in January. After 150 names are drawn and it closes, the remainder of the lottery applicants will be placed on a waiting list in the order in which they are drawn. There’s no lottery for the 50k or 25k, but they fill up quickly, so you’ll want to register for this right away when it opens in January 2020. After the spots are all full, there is a waiting list available. There are no transfers to other runners.

Timothy Lake is a great place to camp if you’d like to make a weekend of it, and the surrounding areas have many camping options. Bring the whole family and get outside into the beauty of the woods.

Put this amazing race on your calendar and go for it. It will be an epic race you won’t forget.
