As many Run Oregon Blog readers know, I am probably the blogger that heads down to Eugene the most of any bloggers. I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to have participated in quite a few Eugene area races I have never raced in the long-standing Butte to Butte. The Oregon Track Club presents this annual Fourth of July run in Eugene. Everyone in the community, and surrounding communities, flock to this event – it is wildly popular, and it appears to be such for good reason. This year’s event will be the 46th annual – incredible!
The 10k course features an intense hill to get things started with a bang! It begins at Spencer Butte Middle with a short jaunt through some neighborhoods before climbing up Donald Street Hill (imagine: a really big, steep hill!), and then coasting downhill to a flat finish on 5th and High Street. The 5k course will start and finish on 5th and High Street. Here is a great video showcasing the 10k start line; you can feel the energy, tradition, and pride in this event!
So are you ready to get registered? Here is the 4-1-1. All entry choices are $25, and you can purchase a technical event t-shirt for $12. Have a child who wants to participate with you? No problem. One child under 12 is free with your paid registration in any event distance. Additional children 12 and under may be registered for $15. There is no race day registration. Shuttles are available to take you your appropriate start line and detailed information is available here.
The top three overall male and female finishers in the 10k and 5k distances will receive awards, as well as the top three in each age group/division for the 10k and 5k. Random prize drawings will also be taking place. Are you super speedy? Well, prize money is up for grabs in the 10k distance.
If you have been looking for a solid, well put together Fourth of July event, definitely consider this one. Having run for 45 years thus far, there has to be something excellent about the Butte to Butte, and one of these years I will race in it, myself!
