If you’ve never experienced running through Silver Falls State Park, you really should get out there. I ran in many beautiful places last year, but this was one of my favorite locations. Unfortunately, the 2019 Silver Falls Challenge, (which occurs on June 1st this year,) is sold out, but you might want to start planning it for next year, as it’s a great deal and a memorable experience!
This family-friendly race includes a 3.5 mile option, a 6 mile option, and a 1k fun run (spots are still available for the fun run!!) The mileage isn’t “exact” but the approximation will give you an idea of what to expect out on the relatively challenging but scenic trails. The 6 miler will kick off the day at 8:45AM and you can check out the course here. The 3.5 miler will start shortly after at 9:00AM and you can view that here. Finally, the 1k fun run begins at 9:45AM.
The Silverton Runners Club is hosting this race with the help of the Oregon Lottery and the State Parks, and the race benefits the Silverton and Mt. Angel High/Middle School’s track and cross country programs as well as running camps and some other fitness activities. The cost of the race is only $10 and even includes a tech shirt (while supplies last) which is a steal for a race! Race day registration is not available for this race. Also all the parking fees at the park are waived on the day of the race due to State Parks Day.
The race is capped at 200 runners, so register early for 2020!
