The Huckleberry Half might just be one of the most scenic and visually stunning runs in the Pacific Northwest. Outside of the city? Yes. Crossing rivers? Yes. Running through a National Forest? Yes. Views of Mt. Hood as you drive? Yes. Let me further explain:

Coming out of the start line in Welches, the course runs through one the most peaceful resorts in Oregon, the Mt. Hood Oregon Resort, right along side their very well kept golf course.

Within the first two miles, you will cross over the Salmon River, twice. From there, the course follows the Salmon River, past some magazine worthy homes, all while fully surrounded by the majesty of the Oregon Forest, all before officially entering the Mt. Hood National Forest. Once entering the National Forest, you’ll continue to follow the path of the river. You will pass a couple water ways coming down from the mountain (creating mini-waterfalls!). You may also see a few rock climbers, climbing on a terrific beginner worthy rock climbing rock!

At the turn around point within the National Forest, literally on a bridge over Salmon River, you may find yourself more curious where the beautiful road continues than heading back to the finish line. But alas, the final few miles provide a challenge to make the training worth it, before ending up back at the Start/Finish line in Welches.

“It’s beautiful and welcoming, with a touch of challenge,” said race organizer Brady Mordhorst. “I haven’t experienced a better course to run than this course.”

And the Huckleberry Half comes with a few bonuses, including a free pass into the Columbia Sportswear Employee Store and free beer from Pelican Brewing!
