I’ve often told student that running is a great metaphor for education: it completely depends on the individual and it completely depends on the community. The student has to show up, do the work, and ask questions to get all the way to graduation. And they have classmates, teachers, and staff members to support them. In the same way, runners have to show, do the work, and ask questions (“Which way?”) all the way to the finish line. And they have other runners, volunteers, and race staff to support them.
The Team Up for Students 5K event this May in Cornelius gets that connection, and is taking it to another level as proceeds from the event will be used to support students at Witch Hazel Elementary School. Community members will get to run alongside students and parents for this family-friendly event. Every step along the way will be helping kids get closer to their academic goals.
Participants are encouraged to signed up early. The first 150 participants will receive a free Team Up for Students drawstring bag. A chance to cheer on students even after the finish line.
